Overview of AV and Tech considerations for your event at Granoff Center

Lighting

Each production space has standard fluorescent room lighting suitable for meetings, receptions and general use. A theatrical lighting system is available for performances and installations. Please refrain from using the theatrical lights for general use, as the bulbs have a short lifespan, are expensive to replace,and also consume much more power than the fluorescent lights.

The theatrical lighting systems are configured to accommodate typical room use. Any desired modifications to the lighting plot must be approved by BAI Staff. Groups wishing to re-hang or re-focus lights must provide evidence of demonstrated professional or course-related lighting experience. The Granoff Center does not provide a lighting crew, although BAI staff can recommend sources to hire such personnel. The presenter’s staff must restore to their original configuration any lights that are moved or re-focused.

The lighting grid in the production studios can only be accessed by a powered personnel lift. Safety training through Brown’s EHS office is required prior to use of the lift. Training should be scheduled six to eight (6-8) weeks in advance. Please contact BAI staff for training arrangements.

Sound

For spaces in the Granoff Center that have a built-in stereo sound system, connection from sources like laptops or iPods can be made through the installed Crestron AV control system. See Space Specs for more details. For more advanced set-ups, please provide as much detail as possible on the Space Request Form, and schedule a meeting with BAI staff to discuss equipment, installation and personnel requirements.

Video

For spaces in the Granoff Center that have a built-in digital projector, connection from sources like laptops or DVD/BD players can be made through the installed Crestron AV control system. See Space Specs for more details. For more advanced set-ups, please provide as much detail as possible on the Space Request Form, and schedule a meeting with BAI staff to discuss equipment, installation and personnel requirements.

Recording | Simulcasting

The location of video recording equipment, tripods etc., must be determined with BAI staff during the required pre-event planning and production meeting. Recording equipment may not block exits, aisles or other egress pathways. Please note that seating capacity may be reduced by the set-up of recording equipment.

Presenters may provide their own video recording personnel or contact Brown Media Production Group to provide these services. In both cases BAI staff must be notified if an audio connection is required by the videographer. It may be necessary to engage an audio engineer to provide a suitable audio mix to the videographer.

Brown Media Production Group must be engaged in order to simulcast events. The presenter must reserve additional space for simulcast location using the Space Request Form. DPS personnel or house management staff are required for any simulcast within the Granoff Center. Please discuss simulcast needs with BAI staff when scheduling your event.

It is the responsibility of the Presenter to secure permission from your guests for recording and replaying event recordings.

Rigging

Any rigging of objects or materials from the production studio grids must be approved by BAI staff for safety. Groups wishing to hang or operate any rigging equipment must provide personnel with demonstrated professional or course-related rigging experience. The Granoff Center does not provide rigging crew, although BAI staff can recommend sources to hire such personnel.

Scenic

Any scenic element must be flame resistant, in accordance with section 5 of Brown's Performing Arts Safety Program.

The Granoff Center does not have fabrication or woodworking space. Any such work should be performed at another facility. Finished products may be transported to the Granoff Center within the arranged load-in period.

Scenic elements may not be screwed to the floor in any Granoff spaces. This will cause damage to the finished hardwood dance floors.

No scenic painting, especially spray-painting, is allowed in any performance spaces or on the loading dock. Please contact BAI staff regarding necessary precautions for performing minor paint touch-up.

Storage

Storage space in the Granoff Center is extremely limited. Please plan to load-out all materials within your specified schedule. Arrangements for deliveries prior to the event must be confirmed with BAI staff.

Equipment Use

Depending on your event, there may be a charge for equipment use. BAI staff will discuss your equipment needs and assess charges accordingly.
