Melody Devries

Melody Devries Melody Devriesis a PhD candidate in the Communication & Culture department at Ryerson University, and is a recipient of the CGS Doctoral Scholarship. Having completed an MA in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Toronto, her doctoral work combines ethnographic methods with sociological theories of relationality and performativity. Her current research examines how contemporary far-right world views exist in tandem with mainstream politics, and how they are unknowingly validated online by folks who might not consider themselves a part of far-right politics. She is currently co-editing a volume (Rowman & Littlefield 2021) concerning the role of technologies in processes of far-right recruitment and mobilization. 

Melody Devries will be working with collaborators to present Beyond Disinformation: Performance and Authenticity.
