Artist Statement
My brother Lincoln passed away 5 years ago. He liked picking yellow flowers and drawing with fat markers. We called him Link. My brother Bond was born 3 years ago. He likes climbing trees and chasing tiny white birds on the beach. My dad chose to name him Bond because bonds and links connect things. Presence of Absence will explore the feeling of being connected to someone who isn’t there, by using positive and negative space to represent what is present and what is missing.
The Presence of Absence mural was co-created in a public workshop on April 11, facilitated by artist Elysee Barakett. Participants used handmade stamps to create a mural that reflects on memory and loss.
