About Prizma
The Prizma Arts and Research Residency program brings your favorite artists' favorite artists to Brown’s campus: Artists whose influence far exceeds their visibility, are the secret engines of contemporary practice and whose work sparks the imagination of entire fields. They are practitioners whose disciplinary expertise runs deep but who refuse to stay in their lanes, applying rigorous knowledge in gloriously orthogonal directions.
Brown Arts Institute operates as a prism for the arts at Brown, PRIZMAtically shaping how ideas are seen and experienced, all while catalyzing audacious interdisciplinary creative research and practice. The Prizma Arts and Research Residency serves as a focal point for this amplification, exploration, and experimentation by framing multi-semester/multi-year residencies designed to fully integrate artists into the pedagogical, research, and production ecosystems of Brown Arts Institute and Brown University.
PRIZMA embraces a spirit of insurgent dorkitude: work that is simultaneously goofy and rigorous, raucous and precise, queer and joyful, divine in its refusal to take itself too seriously while taking ideas very seriously indeed. What emerges is research that doesn't just contribute to fields but fundamentally torques them, all while maintaining the kind of generous chaos that makes people want to stay in the room and come back for more.
