Biography

Jamil Jorge, Ph.D. (he/him) is an ethnomusicologist and arts administrator with a rich background in academia and the arts. Holding a Ph.D. in Musicology from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his research focuses on the intersection of music, identity, and belonging, particularly within American drum and bugle corps. Through his dissertation, "Rise as One: Youth and Intersectional Belonging in American Drum & Bugle Corps," he explores themes of empowerment and community among young musicians.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Jamil is deeply involved in arts administration, currently serving as the ArtsCorps Manager & HR Specialist at Brown University's Brown Arts Institute. Here, he spearheads workforce development initiatives and manages comprehensive HR functions to ensure equitable access and opportunities within the arts. With a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Jamil's work bridges the gap between scholarly research and practical application in the arts, fostering meaningful connections and promoting social change.
