Joel OrloffJoel Orloff is an animator who lives in Providence, Rhode Island. His work explores the deep weirdnesses at the heart of our most central myths and stories, and the ways religion shapes and is shaped by our relationship to the natural world. He has led animation teams for a number of award-winning documentary projects, including Oren Rudavsky's Witness Theater and American Masters' Unladylike2020, as well as multiple upcoming documentaries. He was awarded a MacDowell Colony Residency for his work in 2017, but was unable to attend due to prior commitments. He co-created, with Riley Thompson, the award-winning short film When Planets Mate, and his work has been seen at The Wurks in Providence, is currently on view at the Newport Art Museum's Call and Response 2021 show, and will be shown as part of the Rhode Island Independent Animator Shorts this summer.
