Professor of History of Art and Architecture (HIAA), Professor of Archaeology and Chair, HIAA
Sheila Bonde is a professor of history of art and architecture and professor of archaeology at Brown where she has taught since 1984. She is an active archaeologist, with current fieldwork in progress at two medieval monasteries: Carthusian Bourgfontaine and Cistercian Preuilly, both in northern France. Her published work includes a book on the Augustinian abbey of Saint-Jean-des-Vignes in Soissons, another on fortified churches in Languedoc, and an edited volume on the representation of the past. Her recent work engages with architectural reuse in the Middle Ages, medieval soundscapes, and with the architecture of monastic reform. Additional information on her background can be found here.
