Cole Swenson is the author of 17 volumes of poetry, most recently On Walking On (2017), Gave (2017) and Landscapes on a Train (2015), as well as a collection of critical essays, Noise That Stays Noise (2011). Her books have twice been finalists for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and once for the National Book Award, and have won the Iowa Poetry Prize, the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award, and the National Poetry Series. A 2006 Guggenheim Fellow, she co-edited the Norton anthology American Hybrid (2009) and guest-edited BAX: Best American Experimental Writing 2014. She has translated 18 volumes of poetry from French and won the PEN USA Award in Literary Translation for The Island of the Dead by Jean Frémon. Her translations have been finalists three times for the Best Translated Book Award and once for National Translation Award. She is the founding editor of the translation press La Presse.
