The Granoff Center has a limited supply of cameras and video and audio recorders that are only available to students taking class at the Granoff Center who are enrolled in the audio-visual equipment borrowing program. Please see your instructor for information about access to AV equipment.
At the start of each semester, instructors teaching in the Granoff Center who would like their students to be enrolled in the Equipment Borrowing Program should request that a BAI staff member visit the class to outline the policies and procedures for borrowing equipment, and to collect signed permission forms.
Students who have been enrolled in the Borrowing Program will have their names authorized by BAI staff, and will be cleared for checkout. Students' ability to check out equipment is connected to the course(s) in which they are enrolled; if a students is taking two classes in the building, a form must be filled out for each class.
The standard lending period for equipment is one week. Arrangements for longer lending periods should be discussed with your instructor. Requests for extensions must be made in person and are dependent on current equipment availability. Late returns will result in a suspension of check-out privileges and potential fees.
A valid Brown or RISD identification card must be presented at the time of checkout. When picking up equipment, please review the components of any kits with BAI staff at the check-out window to confirm that all components listed on the equipment ID tags are present. BAI staff will note any exceptions. Upon return, BAI staff will review kit contents to confirm that all components have been returned. Confirmation of check-out and return will be provided via email.
Equipment must be returned by the same student to whom it was checked out. Equipment transfers to other students are not allowed, nor are mixing components among kits.
Borrowing equipment is intended for academic work only. All borrowed equipment must be returned by the due date indicated at the time of check-out, in accordance with the standard lending period. Students checking out equipment are responsible for payment of all non-returned equipment. If equipment is not returned by the stated due date, the BAI will invoice the student's account for replacement costs.
The Granoff Center allows for equipment borrowing as a courtesy only, and it is expressly acknowledged and understood that Brown University assumes no responsibility or liability for any loss or damages resulting directly or indirectly therefrom. Borrowers agree to discharge Brown University from any resulting claims, loss, costs, or damages resulting. Borrowers use loaned equipment at their own risk. Failure to return any equipment borrowed from the Granoff Center will result in a charge for the replacement value of that item.
The hours for the Equipment Check-Out Room, S302, are 1:00pm to 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Equipment is only available for check-out or return during the posted hours at the Check-Out Room; equipment may not be requested at or returned to the Main Office or staff offices unless prior arrangements have been made with BAI staff.
